how to spend an afternoon in portland

On Monday, Jimmy and I woke up and decided that Portland sounded nice.

Ace Hotel Lobby, Portland

Portland always sounds nice on a Monday.

Plus, we both had the day off and we were both craving a change of pace, so we showered, grabbed coffee, and jumped in the car.

Three hours later we arrived.

The afternoon was spent trying new restaurants (like this one and this one) and ducking in and out of bookstores and coffee shops.

We waited out the rain, and made our favorite vintage circuit, and I picked up a used copy of this book (and this one too).

Although, I’m quite sure that their previous owners were completely crazy because I can’t imagine parting with either. Ever.

It was a quick visit but it was just what we needed and I can’t wait to go back.

  1. I love road trips and I love Portland. What a lovely way to spend a day off. I've only been to Portland once and I fell madly in love. What a diverse and delicious town (best Thai food I've ever eaten there!). Glad you had an awesome day and some great eats and reads.

    1. Hi Maggie! We had the best thai food from a little truck on our last weekend trip to Portland. The food in that city in general is just so fantastic!

  5. I so envy that Portland and Seattle are within a three hours' drive of each other. Portland is hands-down one of my favorite places, and I could go live in Powell's. Surely they wouldn't notice I was there in a bookstore that big, right?

    1. Jimmy pretty much had to drag me out of Powells. They have like 4 giant cookbook aisles! Being so close to Portland (and Vancouver and the Olympic Penisula) is one of my favorite things about living in Seattle!

  6. *sigh*...Powell's and Stumptown Coffee...AND vintage!!! You definitely know how to spend a Monday. I lived in Portland for three years and there are so many things I miss about living there. You've captured it perfectly in these photos.

  16. I can't believe I didn't comment until now, but my last couple of weeks have been crazy busy. I did read this post and think "oh, she chose great places to visit in Portland." but never actually SAID that to you. In any case, it sounds like you had a lovely whirlwind trip. And the next time you're here for more than a few hours, I hope we can meet in person!
